last night i went to a raku firing/potluck at the house of stephanie's ceramics professor. stephanie was at work for the first couple of hours so i just told everyone to pretend i was her. it was really fun to see, and stephanie's friends are really nice. i took a lot of pictures--i made a photo album but i of course will still put pictures here. it makes my post look longer.
i love the way that everything glows right when it comes out of the kiln. after that, it goes into a garbage can with burning straw, but i can't remember what that is called. reduction, or something like it. anyway. i'm glad i went because it was just a lot of fun, and it wasn't ever anything i'd ever gotten to do before. also, it was just such a beautiful evening to be outside and stand near the kiln. very relaxing.
It's beautiful! That brings back so many memories. Myself and my classmates did a Raku firing with Cornell Alum, Taku in Japan! We did another when we got home, but it's just so much fun. I love the excitement of wondering how your stuff is going to turn out!
