itinerary

leave ketchikan via ferry, sunday september 2nd 3pm.
arrive bellingham tuesday the 4th, 8am.
take bus to seattle.
leave seattle 11 (or 12?)am wednesday the 5th, arrive minneapolis 8pm.

GO HOME.

until then, hang out in ketchikan.  hike deer mountain, go to misty fjords.  (bridgette and i are looking into cabins & charter flight prices.)  go back to soho coho and resist buying things.  etc.

news from the canshop

monday started week three of 15-hour days, but that was also our last day of pound cans.  pound cans are hell, and the reason for my carpal tunnel issues.  they are just so damn heavy, and nothing is ergnomic in the canshop if you are under like six feet tall.  it's not that girls can't work there as people seem to think, because girls do canshop in naknek, it's just that they designed it poorly.

and today we have four lines going, presumabely to get us out early for once.  or maybe we just have too much damn fish. 

i need to make afterwards plans for travel, but i don't know where to start since i don't know when i'm done.  i do want to go to misty fjords national park, on this island, so there will go $200 to charter a flight.  but it'll be fantastic.  and then i will take a ferry to bellingham, and fly to minneapolis from seattle.  i'm pretty excited about that, but i still turned down a chance to leave.  if i am here, for crying out loud, i might as well be making money for as long as i can!

(thanks for all the mail, those who have sent it to me! if you haven't yet, you still have a few days before i suggest you stop--it takes about a week to get here, and i don't know how much longer i will remain at the cannery.)

it is huge and i know it is sideways, but it's the best that i can do for the time being.   you can see the sky for what seems like, and may be, miles.  i also want to post one from the red dog, but since they are so big and i can't edit them right now it'll have to wait until a later time.

i also have some of my ankle after i sprained it, but i will spare you of those!

i feel like an old lady...

i am so tired...there was a two day opener for fishing, which means for the last three days i worked something like 15.5 hours a day.  which is good money and all, but i am TIRED!  today is supposedly going to be a shorter day, meaning we finish before evening mug up instead of at midnight.  (before 8:30, that is.)  i will pass out early tonight if that is true.  i'm also hoping for a day off tomorrow and nice weather (knock on wood, it's been nice for the last four days which means it'll probably rain tomorrow) so that i can go to saxman to the totem pole park.  and sleep.  lots and lots of sleep.

also, i think i have carpal tunnel, mostly in my right hand and wrist because pretty much everything i do at work hurts.  i have a brace and the guys won't let me work line five, which is the one-pound can line.  i feel bad about it, but if i can't really lift anything without pain, i'm not going to complain if they want to make it easier on me.

i keep wanting to post pictures of naknek, since those are the ones i have on a cd and can do, but i keep leaving the cd in my room.  which is sad, because i took some really great photos i want to share!  maybe i will just start leaving it in my pocket so the next time i can get myself on the computer i can load one or two.  that would be sweet.  but not as sweet as some sleep!

my slow descent into canshop hell.

we listened to the same cd of 80s love songs i think for about eight hours.  just at the point when i thought i would lose it, the music was changed.

also?  it dawned on me yesterday that helena bonham carter as bellatrix lestrange=BRILLIANT!
